Enjoy a cleaner home this holiday season with this holiday deep cleaning checklist by tackling it one room at a time.

Everyone Loves a Clean Kitchen

Start at the top and work your way down:

  • Wipe the top of cabinets, fridges, hood fans, and pantries.
  • Dust or wipe light fixtures.
  • Clean walls, baseboards, door casing, and windows.
  • Clean out the fridge and freezer, throw out old or expired food and condiments, put food that will expire quickly near the front, wipe out the ice box, prepare fresh ice and replace the water filter if required.
  • Clean the top of the stove, knobs, displays, and inside the oven.
  • Wipe the exterior of the microwave. Inside remove and wash the turntable, glass plates, and ring roller, to clean the interior. Don’t forget to wash the grease filters, vents, and hood if required.
  • Pull out the fridge and oven to clean beneath them – tip: wipe down the sides of counters, cupboards, walls, and cabinets while the appliances are pulled out that aren’t normally accessible.
  • Wipe down the interior and exterior of cabinets. Organize glassware, bakeware, and table settings that will be used the most.
  • Clean out the utensil holder, and other drawers that need clean-up.
  • Wipe clean or polish sinks, faucets, and stainless-steel.
  • Wipe countertops and small appliances.
  • Empty and wipe garbage cans, recycle bins, and compost containers.
  • Sweep and mop the floors.

Prepare the Living Room for Holiday Décor

  • Clean out fireplaces, vents, flues, and chimneys.
  • Dust mantels, ledges, tables, hutches, and cabinets.
  • Polish wood furniture and cabinets.
  • Wipe windows, sills, blinds, and curtains.
  • Organize, clean, or dust, toys, books, keepsakes, pictures, and artwork.
  • Put away unnecessary items.
  • Wash pillows, throws, and blankets.
  • Vacuum furniture, carpets, and area rugs.
  • Sweep and mop the floors.
  • Add seasonal scented candles, air fresheners, centerpieces, and décor.

Create a Dining Room you can be proud of

  • Polish wood furniture and cabinets.
  • Wipe down the table and chairs, and wash chair covers and tablecloths if required.
  • Dust or wipe light fixtures.
  • Clean walls, baseboards, door casings, windows, sills, curtains, and blinds.
  • Add seasonal tablecloths, place settings, silver wear, centerpieces, and décor.
  • Vacuum carpets or sweep and mop the floors.

Make cleaning the bathroom easy

  • Clean showers, bathtubs, showerheads, faucets, shelves, and knobs.
  • Wash shower curtains, or wipe glass doors and frames.
  • Wipe windows, sills, curtains, and blinds.
  • Clean the toilet, the handle, bowl, base, and toilet paper holder.
  • Wipe down vanities, sinks, faucets, drains, soap dispensers, or holders and toothbrush accessories.
  • Clean walls, baseboards, and door casings.
  • Wash bathmats, towels, facecloths, and rugs.
  • Wipe or dust towel racks, towel holders, baskets, shelves, and décor.
  • Empty garbage cans.
  • Sweep and mop the floors.
  • Add seasonal scented candles or air fresheners.
  • Tip! Don’t forget to refill the toilet paper, Kleenex, and other toiletries.

Guests will never want to leave after this

  • Wash sheets, blankets, comforters, duvet covers, pillows, and other bedding items.
  • Rotate or flip the mattress.
  • Vacuum or clean the mattresses, carpets, and rugs
  • Replace summer décor with seasonal items and scents.
  • Wash towels. cloths and robes.
  • Freshen the guest bathroom.
    • Tip! Add seasonal scented candles or air fresheners. Don’t forget the extra toilet paper.

Your whole house will sparkle and shine

  • Dust or wipe light fixtures and fans.
  • Clean walls, baseboards, and door casings.
  • Wash windows, sills, blinds, and curtains.
  • Dust ledges, tables, and cabinets.

  • Put summer outerwear away including sandals, light jackets, hoodies, running shoes, and ball hats to make room for winter boots, hats, mitts, earmuffs, snow pants, toques, scarves, blankets, and jackets.
  • Put summer accessories away including bike helmets, elbow pads, knee pads, rollerblades, roller skates, skateboards, inflatable swim toys, life jackets, sand toys, bug spray, and other summer accessories to make room for shovels, toboggans, sleds, snowbrushes, skis, poles, snowboards, snowshoes, and other winter accessories.
  • Tip! Stick dryer sheets amongst these items and clothing for year-round freshness.
